OVERVIEW

Starting and running your small business is hard enough, especially in challenging economic times. The last thing you want is to get mired in filling out complicated paperwork to register your business as a corporation or LLC. There are plenty of companies out there that provide pre-packaged solutions for incorporation, so drilling down and finding one that is both reliable and affordable can be a challenge. This isn’t something you want to get wrong!

LIKES

Small business professionals know how important it is to structure the company in a smart, tax-friendly way. Once we’ve decided to incorporate or form an LLC, the company that we turn to for affordable and reliable solutions is MyCorporation.com. MyCorporation is no fly-by-night outfit; it’s an Intuit Company, known for flagship products QuickBooks®, Quicken® and TurboTax® software used and trusted by thousands of small business professionals everywhere. When you’re dealing with something so sensitive as structuring your business, it’s real piece-of-mind to know the company preparing your paperwork is not a shady operation.

The registration process is quick and straightforward, taking less than an hour to finish. MyCorporation offers four different packages, ranging in price from free to $299. For our main businesses, we'll usually use the Standard or Deluxe services, but have used the Free service for some minor businesses. As you can see in the screenshot below, they make it very easy to see what all of the fees are.

Once your order is complete, MyCorporation contacts you to let you know how long filing should take in your particular state. If you need expedited servicing, you can pay an additional fee to speed up the process.

Clearly, the advantage of using a firm such as this for these services is convenience, and MyCorporation delivers the goods. They also offer various other services, including trademark searches, copyright registrations, and DBA registrations. Once you’ve ordered, the site walks you through other products MyCorporation offers that may be of some interest to you. If you don’t need them, no problem, just click right on through.

A new and popular feature MyCorporation offers is their “Business in a Box,” which is really just a discounted bundle of services that makes starting a premium corporation or LLC easier. Some of the services include operating agreements and bylaws, name availability search, compliance tips, and annual report services. Not everyone is going to need this kind of does-it-all package, but we like that MyCorporation anticipates every need, and puts it together for those who place a premium on convenience.

The MyCorporation website does have a “Learning Center” as well, that helps determine whether a corporation or LLC is most favorable for an individual business. This may be useful if you’re still unsure how to proceed with the structuring of your business. Obviously, you don’t want to get all your information from one place, but we like that MyCorporation has an interest in providing a general education about the products that they offer.

DISLIKES

Some have complained about what they perceive to be high convenience costs charged by MyCorporation. Yes, it is true you will be paying higher fees than you would if you assembled and filed the paperwork yourself. Of course, users will need to assess what they’re willing to pay for the services, and whether the convenience outweighs the extra costs incurred for hiring out the paperwork. MyCorporation does charge a cancellation fee also, if you elect to withdraw your order after it is placed.
